Spleenwort (Family Aspleniaceae)

The Aspleniaceae, commonly called the Spleenwort Family, is a family

of ferns, included in the order Polypodiales or in some classifications as

the only family in the order Aspleniales. The Aspleniaceae includes the

two genera: Asplenium and Hymenasplenium. Members of Family

Aspleniaceae are found world wide.

Members of Genus Asplenium are popular with plant evolutionists, field naturalists, and fern gardeners, not only because of the interesting morph-

ology of the plants but also because of their remarkable ability to form

spectacular hybrids, often combining dramatically different leaf shapes.
